CHARITABLE PARTNERS
We’re delighted to announce our new charity partnership with Teach First! Teach First works in partnership with schools serving the most deprived communities across the country, by recruiting, training and supporting brilliant teachers, helping thousands of children everyday to fulfil their potential.
At Porky Whites, we believe it’s vital to support the education of our next generation and we can’t wait to raise money for such an important mission through our fundraising events with friends, family and customers.
Things you may like to know
Where does the name Porky Whites come from?
For decades, our sausages were sold directly to our customers from our many butcher shops in and around Surrey. They were affectionately nicknamed 'Porky Whites' by those that loved them most – our customers. Times change and sadly our stores are no more but our heritage lives on and thankfully even more people, right across the country enjoy our sausages more than ever.
Are you really a family run and owned business?
We really are family-run and family-owned. Our beloved Chairman Graham is still in most days (he's the young boy in the old family picture that appears on our packs). His daughter Fran is now the MD of the company and who is ably assisted by her sister Carla. There aren't many independent food manufacturers found in the supermarkets that are able to make the same claim but we're proud of our independence and our family's contribution to other families and their mealtime moments.
Do you rear your own pigs?
It all started way back in 1935 when brothers Harry and Jim White started their own pig farm in Ewell in Surrey. In those days the pigs were theirs but over the decades things change and we now focus on just making the final products with all kinds of types of meat.
Didn't you used to have shops?
For many years, we had a considerable number of retail outlets across Surrey. This was where Porky Whites sausages grew its own fanbase. Sadly, these stores are no more and we concentrate on making our products for people to buy from the stores and supermarkets from where they buy their other groceries.
Can I buy my Porky Whites direct from you?
We used to have an online shop and for many years ran a home delivery service for our customers. There are real challenges in selling fresh products online and whilst we successfully overcame these, the actual cost of preparing products and the distribution was a bit pricey for most of our retail customers who were generally only buying small quantities.
Is it true that Porky Whites has an official fan club?
It is true. Many years ago, one of lovely customers created the Porky Whites Appreciation Society. This Facebook group of fans are now always the first to hear of news and developments and even have a little lapel pin badge so they can wear their support with pride.
